Axis 5 : Local people's emotions towards foreigners

In the 5th axis, we identify the emotions that locals harbour towards foreigners, ranging from suspicion, fear, aggression, and superiority to sympathy, solidarity, and empathy. This axis reveals contradictions between individuals who have experienced the stigma of being a foreigner until they are socially accepted and people who have recently emigrated, who experience the same treatment. As highlighted in the literature, "putting yourself in someone else's shoes" starts with a particularly challenging process when you try to comprehend the outside world perceptually, as "it is more likely that we see/perceive what we know than that we know what we see" (Fraser, 2001).
