In this episode, there is a pervasive sense of nostalgia for the past. The invocation of the past creates a connection to tradition and helps the reinforcement of the sense of identity experienced by the subjects of the native subgroup.
F.=Facilitator, P.=Participant
F. 1: What's in your suitcase?
P. 10: Some old photos of the city. It was completely different back then.
F. 1: How was it?
P. 10: It was completely different, maybe because of my age I remember the dirt roads vividly. The square, too, was nothing like it is today. My grandmother lived near the square and I basically grew up there. I have a lot of memories.
F. 1: What's your favourite photo of the ones you have in your suitcase?
P. 10: It's one that only older people can understand. Me, three or four years old outside of Panagiotis Michalakis' printing shop, when it was next to the old Town Hall, with a buzz cut, being held by Panagiotis...
P. 3: Before it became a pedestrian street.
P. 10: Well, yes! Around 50-60 metres from the old Town Hall, there was a printing shop and they used to take me from there, pick me up. And I kept a picture of me as a toddler.
F. 1: Is there anything else in your suitcase besides these very nice photographs that you describe?
P. 10: Yes, memories of the old town.
F. 1: I see.
