Episode 4

A scene summarising the benefits of sociodrama. After processing, reconciliation, self-criticism, and a deeper understanding, optimism and collective positivity emerge.

F.=Facilitator, P.=Participant

P. 6: I hear what he says, I hear it, and... yes, if you don't put yourself in the other's shoes...

P. 4: Everyone said it.

F. 2: Alright, now for this last part... I'll take some papers... I'll leave the boredom, the frustration...

P. 7: You took the frustration, right?

F. 2: No, no, sorry, the Boredom, the Movement, and then this... these three, okay? Here it is [referring to the papers left on the floor]: I don't decide. I just listen. Boredom, Movement - Sociability. Go and stand behind the paper that you feel most strongly about. When you came here, if I had told you to stand behind one of these three papers, which one would have expressed you? At the moment you entered.

F. 2: Yes, as you came here.

F. 2: [Approaching and addressing a participant who stood alone on a piece of paper] Great optimism... ambitious plans, huh?

[Laughter from several participants can be heard.]

P. 3: I knew nothing, I saw a door and walked in!

[Everyone laughs.]

F. 2: How could you know that you joined the Optimistic Eleusinians! What did you want to say to them?

P. 8: Just participating in something like this, I think, is a step towards sociability.

P. 2: I'm starting to get bored.

F. 2: You're getting bored. What is it that makes you start to get bored?

P. 2: I don't know.

P. 9: I think all of this is too much, and maybe it should have ended earlier, if you'll allow me.

F. 1: Of course, you can.

P. 9: I mean, I think this circle here, at least for me, was too much. Although I liked all the previous ones, this circle seemed a bit... exhausting.

F. 2: Very well. It's not nice that you felt exhausted sharing it.

P. 4: I like to listen. I like to observe and record. I don't make decisions. I like to listen first.

P. 3: I like to make decisions about what I hear, not just me, but others too.

P. 7: I saw this day as a very positive move for Eleusis, and I still see it as a very positive move, as a meaningful gathering to hear all opinions, get to know our neighbours, and address the problems together. So I still see it as a very positive move now.

P. 6: [....] Movement, pioneering. If we don't do new things, we won't move forward.

P. 1: In any case, it brings positivity outward.

P. 8: History is written by groups, after all.

P. 6: This is not stagnation, for sure.

F. 2: Alright. And now, before we finish, sit in your chairs almost in a circle, so we can let the camera continue from there. It's not just about safety, it's not just about that. It's just that what we're doing today is sociodrama, so we deal with something - not just with ourselves but with ourselves within a larger whole. It is important to have it, just as we all need a living space at home. Depending on the individuals, a critical mass is required, that is, when we are a small group, it's one measure. If it's much more than that, we won't be able to relate. Even if it's very close, we'll start to have relationship problems. Sociodrama concerns a large group, potentially, which could potentially include 200, 300, 300, 1000 people. Even if it's us.
